2. Hosting and server log files
This website runs on its own server in a data centre in Germany. Where a service provider processes personal data in this context, a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR is in place.
With every request, the web server temporarily stores: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the amount of data transferred, the previously visited page (referrer) and browser and operating system (user agent). This serves the secure and stable operation of the site, for example defending against attacks. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. Log files are deleted after 14 days.
3. Audience measurement without cookies
To understand which content is read, I use the open-source software Umami, which runs on my own server. No cookies are set and nothing is stored on your device. Recorded are the pages viewed (without search parameters), individual actions such as starting a game, the referring page, browser, device type, screen size and approximate location (country, region, city). The location is derived from the IP address; the IP address itself is not stored. If your browser sends “Do Not Track”, nothing is recorded at all. Data is not passed on to third parties. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; my interest lies in improving the content.
4. Contact form and email
If you write to me, I process your name, your email address, your topic and your message in order to reply. The form sends them as an email to my mailbox; nothing is stored on the server itself. To prevent abuse, the server keeps your IP address in memory for at most one hour to slow down excessive requests. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR, and for enquiries about working together Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR. The data is deleted once the conversation is concluded and no retention obligations apply.
5. Fonts, games and the on-board computer
All fonts are loaded from this server, not from Google or other providers. Games and the chess engine run entirely in your browser. The on-board computer OW-9000 currently answers with prepared texts; your input does not leave your browser.
6. Your rights
You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21). You may also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority; in Bavaria this is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
